Telemedicine Q & A

What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine is a form of remote medical care. Instead of seeing your health care provider at the office, your provider uses HIPAA-compliant telecommunication technology so you can get the health care you need from your home, office, or other remote location.

Telemedicine isn’t new. However, since COVID-19, many more health professionals offer telemedicine to provide health care for their patients and reduce risk.

In addition to protecting your health, you may find telemedicine more convenient for your schedule. It also saves you time and money since you don’t have to travel to the office.

Seeing a need to continue to provide professional nutrition counseling and care, Nutrition & Health Center offers telemedicine appointments.

Am I a candidate for telemedicine nutrition counseling?

Your RDN at Nutrition & Health Center determines if you’re a candidate for telemedicine nutrition counseling during an initial screening. Nutrition & Health Center provides nutrition counseling for many needs, including:

  • Chronic disease management
  • Diabetes
  • Eating disorders
  • Food sensitivities
  • Medical weight loss

In most cases, your dietitian can provide the nutrition therapy you need through telemedicine. However, in order to fully assess your nutritional health, you may need to provide health data prior to your appointment, such as your height and weight.

They may also request you provide measurements of the circumference of your waist, hips, thighs, and upper arms. They may also need your blood glucose readings and other lab data to assess overall health.

What can I expect during telemedicine nutrition counseling?

You can expect professional and attentive care during your telemedicine nutrition counseling sessions at Nutrition & Health Center.

During the session, your provider asks detailed questions about your medical history, the types of medications and supplements you take, and your usual diet. They also ask about your nutrition and health goals and the obstacles that may hinder your ability to meet those goals.

Nutrition & Health Center uses Nutritionist Pro™ to conduct a nutrient analysis of your usual diet, which helps them create objective and effective nutrition recommendations.

Your provider reviews their recommendations with you and provides the tools and support you need to implement your nutrition care plan. They schedule telemedicine follow-up appointments to track changes, discuss challenges, and cheer on successes.

If needed, your RDN at Nutrition & Health Center may request you come to the office so they can assess your body composition and metabolic rate using their professional equipment.

Don’t delay your nutrition therapy. Call Nutrition & Health Center, or book an appointment online to see if telemedicine works for you.
